Hyperopia/Hypermetropia

Hyperopia/Hypermetropia

What is Hyperopia / Hypermetropia?

Farsightedness. Here, the eye is shorter than normal, and light from close objects cannot focus clearly on the retina. The words on a page will seem blurry, or it will be difficult to see well enough to do close-up tasks, like threading a needle.

It occurs where the eyeball is too short, or the cornea is too flat, so images are focused behind the eye rather than on the retina at the back of the eye, and means sufferers are unable to focus on near objects, or in extreme cases, unable to focus at all.

Mr Puri says:

“Hyperopia can be corrected through the use of positive or convex lenses, such as glasses or contact lenses. It’s often confused with presbyopia, another eye condition causing blurred near vision. If you are suffering any symptoms, we’d always advise an early examination to determine the correct diagnosis.”
