Home Visits

For the elderly or those with mobility problems attending a local optometrist is not always easy.

Carers may be hard to find during business hours, and access can be difficult too. But this group of people absolutely needs regular eye care. Two visits are usually needed – one to carry out an eye test, and another to fit and deliver the patient’s spectacles.

You are entitled to a free NHS sight test at home if you are:

  • Unable to leave home unaccompanied
  • Require a home visit on account of physical or mental limitations
  • Aged 60 or over
  • Under 16, or under 19 and in full-time education
  • Registered blind or partially sighted
  • Diagnosed as having diabetes or glaucoma
  • 40 or over with a direct relative with glaucoma
  • Prescribed a complex lens
  • You have been advised by an ophthalmologist that
you are at risk of glaucoma
