Retinal Photography/OCT

Ocular Coherence Tomography (OCT) is an advanced eye scan for people of all ages

For many people, it is something they would have to attend a hospital or specialised eye clinic to have done, but thanks to our investment in this state-of-the-art ocular coherence tomography machine, we can now offer this in our practice.

We’ve had the technology to photograph the back of the eye for a number of years now, allowing us to make a record of your ocular health with much more accuracy.

3D live image of the eyes, instantly allowing us to diagnose changes to the back of the eye. These include

  • Age-related changes
  • Diabetes
  • Glaucoma
  • Macular holes

Dilation is often necessary. The process takes around 25 minutes.

The introduction of the 3D scan means we still take a photograph, but now we also have a three-dimensional cross-section too.

It’s similar to an ultrasound, using light rather than sound waves to illustrate the different layers which make up the back of your eye.

The scan is non-invasive, painless, simple, and quick. The information it gives us is invaluable, picking up the most subtle changes to your retina, and as always, early diagnosis of any problems gives the best chance of successful treatment.

Full eye examinations are available through the NHS (conditions apply) free of charge. Enhanced eye examinations (NHS) are available for an extra charge. Please speak to our staff if you require any further information.
